The Maryland Living Center is a transitional living facility for homeless youth, 16 – 21 years old, that aims to successfully transition youth into independent living within 12 -18 months. MLC works to help each individual fulfill their highest potential.

Working to better prepare our youth.
We use the TIP (Transition to Independence Program), which includes:
- Positive Youth Development, focusing on strengths instead of risks, and a hopeful future instead of the past.
- Strength Based Futures Planning, finding a future that focuses on the strengths of each youth.
- Support System Relationship Building, helping youth identify and build positive supports in their life.
MLC Skills Assessment
Upon entering the MLC program, each resident takes an independent living skills assessment that identifies their unique needs and skills. The results of this assessment help staff work with each resident to personalize their case plan, making it as beneficial and successful as possible.

We provide independent housing.
As a result of our partnership with the Housing Development Corporation, our facility was entirely renovated from 2012-2013, specifically to house the Maryland Living Center program. Therefore, every apartment in the building gives the residents an independent lifestyle with a full kitchen, bathroom, living room, and bedroom.
- 12 apartments available for youth; 3 two-bedroom and 9 one-bedroom apartments
- Two on-site laundry facilities
- Library, with community computer and television
- Supplementary food/hygiene pantry
- Handicap accessible first floor
Our mission
The mission of MLC is to provide an empowering life experience in a stable, safe, and secure living and learning environment, for homeless or transitioning youth. MLC is a permanent housing facility that aims to successfully transition homeless and aged-out youth – ages 16-21 years old – into independent living within 12-18 months.
